Ezetimed 10mg/tab by Deus Medical is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor that helps reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It works by blocking the NPC1L1 protein, responsible for absorbing cholesterol in the small intestine, prompting the liver to remove more cholesterol from the bloodstream.

It is typically used to treat high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) in individuals who cannot control levels through diet alone. Ezetimed can be used as monotherapy or in combination with statins for a stronger lipid-lowering effect.

Ezetimed differs from statins by reducing dietary and biliary cholesterol absorption rather than production, making it ideal for those who are statin-intolerant or require additional LDL reduction.

It is not intended for use in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and caution should be taken in those with liver conditions.

For adult patients, the standard dose is 10mg once daily, with or without food. Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, and fatigue, with rare but serious risks such as muscle pain or liver enzyme elevation—especially when used with statins.
